I had to do a lot of research for a recent trip to the Big Apple. Finding cheap hotels in New York is not particularly easy, at least if your perception of “cheap” is under 100 dollars. I found quite a few hotels under a c-note, but most of them were in areas I felt were “undesirable” (too far from the places we wanted to visit) or did not have private bathrooms (something my wife absolutely insisted on). In the end we ended up staying at the Milford Plaza, which is considered a “value” hotel, at about $160 per night. While that’s kind of pricey, in my book, for a budget hotel, it turns out that’s considered a pretty good deal in NYC.
