Opinion On “The Weekend Interview with Bill Gates: Was the $5 Billion Worth It?”
I recently had the pleasure of going to a seminar with Dr. George Plopper who was emphasizing the importants of choosing the correct metrics when evaluting whether education or teaching and education is successful. For example, by Bill Gates standards his project of building more local schools was not successful by the metric of increasing the number of students who went on to college. However, what if other metrics were applied, such as measuring students sense of self worth, employability and more long term, will their children value education more and possibly be more successful? I think his new focus on the research of education is great and consistency could be cost effective, just be careful not to squash that new teacher enthusiasm because great ideas come out of it. Good luck!
